About

Dr Mochabo Moerane is a human rights and social justice activist who had dedicated his entire life in contributing to foster a non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and a prosperous South Africa. The highlight of his human rights struggle is when he was appointed and served for two conservative terms (from 1 February 2012 until 31 March 2016) as a member of the Independent Communication Authority of SA (ICASA) HR and Remuneration Board sub-committee. A Chapter 9 Institution of the 1996 Constitution of the Republic of SA established in terms of section 192 to give effect to section 16 (Freedom of Expression) of the Bill of Rights. To regulate broadcasting in the public interest, and to ensure fairness and a diversity of views broadly representing South African society.

He is professionally registered as Industrial and Organisational Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), Master Human Resources Mochabo imagePractitioner with the South African Board for People Practice (SABPP), and finally as a Social worker with the South African Council for Social Services Professions (SACSSP).

Mochabo Moerane was a Psychology lecturer from 2013 to 2019. He is currently the Chair of Department: Human Resource Management at UNISA and also running a Private Psychology PractIce and Principal Researcher at the Institute of Conflict Management and Team Cohesion in Kyalami, MIDRAND.

Since 2008 Mochabo has been an affiliate of ICAS a leading Employee Assistance Programmes service provider to companies and organisations in South Africa, specialising in the provision of behavioural risk management and Employee Health and Wellbeing Programmes (EHWP’s).

The flagship of his private practice is his uniquely developed sought after enrichment couple-centred counselling sessions that are intended to enhance relationships and marital challenges in the turbulent ever changing world.

Mochabo PhD degree thesis focused on the construction of a psycho-social model for enhancing team effectiveness and engagement at a financial institution.

His other main areas of expertise are in life/personal coaching, career coaching, executive coaching, human resources consulting, change management, diversity management, labour law and psychometric assessments.

Mochabo’s previous work experience and consulting work of more than 28 years include amongst others working for companies such as Nedbank, Saambou bank, Capital Alliance, ABSA bank, Momentum, Land bank, ICAS, City of Joburg municipality, Timrite, Standard bank, LifeAssist and Transnet.

Board Memberships

  1. Since December 2011 appointed member of South African Board for People Practice (SABPP) serving in the Professional Registration Committee. In 2014 was elected as the Chairperson of the committee.
  2. In November 2017 he was appointed as Board chairperson of the Gauteng Children’s Rights Committee (GCRC) an NGO established to protect and promote children’s rights, and to give effect of Section 28 of 1996 Republic of South Africa Constitution.
